Serial Killer Fun Time!

This term we are given the task of inventing our own serial killer. That’s right, we as young impressionable adults are given the task of mapping out the perfect murder…what could possibly go wrong?

So to start off, what the heck is a serial killer?

Well, Wikipedia, a.k.a the most trustworthy website to date, states that a “serial killer” is: “a person who murders three or more people, usually due to abnormal psychological gratification, with the murders totaling more than a month’s time and including a significant break (a “cooling off period”) between each of them. Some sources, such as the FBI, disregard the “three or more” criterion and define the term as “a series of two or more murders, committed as separate events, usually, but not always, by one offender acting alone”.

So as we can all see, a serial killer doesn’t kill one person and thinks to themselves, (I say “themselveS” as a serial killer is probably schizophrenic and in desperate need of a “time out” as my kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Bothma would put it), “Oh, this seems fine, think I might go get some Chipotle to reward myself.” NO! Them crazy fools need more excitement, so what do they do? SPOILER ALERT, them psychopaths kill more people. Often the victims are selected and aren’t random, as the killer picks them out through a certain criteria he/she has thought out. So for instance the killer may hate blonde haired females between the ages of 35-40 because their drunk mothers beat them daily and so happened to be blonde.

So that’s basically what a serial killer is, so now to find inspiration. But where? There are numerous films I could study that delve into the mind of said serial killer, for instance: American Psycho, The Dark Knight, Natural Born Killers, Psycho and heck, even Hannibal would be a good starting point.

So I begin my journey in creating the perfect serial killer. I might not sleep for a few days during the process, but hey, this could be fun…or really fucked up.
